New Databases - Opposing Viewpoints and Tests in Print

Two new additions have been made to Leatherby Libraries database collection: Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center and Tests in Print. Below you will find more information about each database's contents as well as access instructions. Happy searching!

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center
This database contains information on a variety of current and controversial issues via pro and con viewpoint articles; reference articles that provide context and perspective; full-text magazines; academic journals; newspapers; primary source documents; government and organizational statistics; and multimedia content, including images and podcasts, with links to hand-selected web sites, and more.

Tests in Print
Tests in Print is produced by the Buros Institute of Mental Measurements at the University of Nebraska. Serves as a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language and provides information to users including test purpose, test publisher, in-print status, price, test acronym, intended test population, administration times, publication date(s), and test author(s). A score index permits users to identify what is being measured by each test.

To access these as well as Leatherby Libraries other 150+ databases, begin at the Library's homepage, www.chapman.edu/library. Find the section near the bottom of the page titled "Databases (Search for Articles)." Select "Title" from the "Search Databases by..." dropdown menu. This will take you to a page titled Electronic Resources, which provides an alphabetical list of all the databases subscribed to by the Library. Once you have located the database you wish to search, click "Connect" under its title.

SAILS Testing and New Library Research Guides

If you are a new Brandman student (as of the Fall II session), you should have received an email requesting your participation in SAILS information literacy assessment testing. Please note the test is actually open until December 31st (the initial email sent included the wrong dates; my apologies for any confusion). You are highly encouraged to take this self-assessment test as it is important for the Library as well as the University in assessing how we can better meet your and future students’ library research needs. If you have any questions, please contact me at aknight@chapman.edu or (800) 344-5756 Ext. 2.

New Library Research Guides
Please visit the Brandman University Library and Research Guide at http://chapman.libguides.com/brandman and click the “Course Guides” tab to view course-specific library research guides. You will see a variety of guides for Sociology, Criminal Justice, Organizational Leadership, Education, Human Resources, and Psychology classes. Faculty are welcome to contact me to request course guides for their class and to schedule library instruction sessions for the upcoming Spring I and II sessions. Please note that it may take up to 3 weeks for me to complete a guide for your class, depending on my workload, the number of requests I’ve received for guides from other faculty, and my library instruction schedule.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend!
